You have strayed into that mythical place of make believe that is located betwixt Modified Production and Sports Libre known as Cuckoo Land. It is governed by the Oompa Loompas whose grasp on reality is somewhat tenuous.

i dont really understand why a 1000cc empire with a 200hp superbike engine in it is somehow ok to be operated by a less experienced driver than a 150hp 1800cc Ralt RT.

Bonkers.

If MSA are going to do this type of stuff it needs to make sense. Eg. Anything thats a race car, non road legal, on slicks, you need a Nat A. Anything road legal, Nat B.

There are plenty of road legal cars with 200 +bhp that you can drive on a national B that can kill you just as quick as a full race single seater..

Indeed and equally bizarrely , as I've just bolted on twin 40s to my Merlyn it looks as though I now need a Nat A whereas with one carb it's OK on a "B"

It is silly isn't it?
In 1990 when I finally decided to move from the spectator side to the dark side I simply paid to have a Nat A Speed. Could have paid less and had a B.
There was no reason to choose one or the other due to my chosen car (a 1973 Porsche 911, class C road going class).
For my Lola in Sports Libre over 2000ccit had to be a Nat A Open.
Costs more....

Funny system the MSA have.
