Tyre warming/cleaning?

Just read in today's MSA news sheet that from Jan 18 no form of tyre warming will be allowed in Sprints, Hills or drag racing.
Thus pre-start antics will be a thing of the past from next year as tyre cleaning pre start line inevitably warms the driven tyres.

and so it should be, total waste of time and rubber. As for the drivers who like to heat the rears in the wet, making loads of steam, well I suppose the crowds like it....

As with everything Blue Book related there seems to be some discussion as to whether this includes pre-start 'cleaning'.... Definite yay or nay on that issue and the one of using heat-guns to clean tyres would be good

Drag racing, part of the spectacle is the pre start burn out, so I can see this being popular with them!!

Yes, we will all be in-line with Harewood and Gurston.
Sounds good to me, less stress and strain on car and me!
Also safer for the Start Line marshals.

I don't think it's ever been compulsory Lola!!

The wording is ambiguous.... Remains to be seen if pre-start Tyre-Cleaning falls under the heading of 'warming by mechanical means' .... Fine timing by the MSA sending this out Friday afternoon..... Means a weekend of speculation till someone drops them an email on Monday to check if that's what they meant.

True, you don't have to indulge in the action.
Many many moons ago there was a noise problem at Prescott in the late 90's (nothing changes) with the man across the valley and the running of the event simultaneously with the Grand National.
We in the road classes/road tyres were asked to not wheel spin before our runs to kill the shrill noise of screeching road tyres.
We all complied and our times were much the same without the warming.

Road tyres I know (List 1A).
The man was happy.

Stopping officially pre heating will save stress, stop cars blasting to the start line after the warming area had been passed and will save some time / car.

I believe the notice is clear, 'no tyre warming by any means'.

I can't cut-n-paste the section out of the MSA bulletin.

I agree regarding the wording.... However it's the intent that counts.... I discussed this elsewhere and it was pointed out that the spinning is for cleaning rather than warming (the pre-start area of TWF is clearly marked 'clean'... tho I admit others are marked 'Tyre Warming') .... Depends if the intent is to clean and the warming is seen as just a consequence of that (as with use of a heat gun and scraper to clean slicks... Would seem outlawed by the wording but heating is minor, short-lived and incidental)... As spinning is the sole heating method currently used I would have thought they would have mentioned it by name if the intention was to ban it??.... However it is the Blue Book so we await a clarification of their clarification!!
